Trunk or Treat

One of the “trunks” at Mt. Wesley Akin’s Trunk or Treat

The parking lot of Mt. Wesley Akin Nazarene Church was filled with ghouls, vampires, ninjas, cats, princesses, firefighters and… trucks full of candy Halloween night. Church members and trick-or-treaters alike braved the frigid evening to enjoy some time out celebrating the holiday.

In the “spirit” of the evening, trucks were decorated with traditional Halloween fare, such as jack-o-lanterns, skeletons that danced in the wind, and even a haunting Halloween rock ‘n’ roll soundtrack.

Of course it was all in fun, and many young and older folks alike dropped by to enjoy a safe and happy Halloween outing. Hope to see you next year! Meanwhile, enjoy the slideshow below.

MWA Edge Service at Mt. Wesley Akin Nazarene

Music is a big part of worship at Mt. Wesley Akin Nazarene. Above, Pastor David Usry sings while the musically gifted youth of Mt. Wesley Akin accompany during the first MWA EDGE service on Oct. 28, 2012.

Sunday, Oct. 28, marked the beginning of the 9 a.m. Mt. Wesley Akin Nazarene Edge service (MWA EDGE), a more informal and less traditional service than the 11 a.m. service. Pastor David Usry and some of our talented young men rocked the house with singing and live music. The music was followed by the pastor’s message from the Song of Solomon, which was all about dealing with life’s little annoyances or (in the words of the verse) “catching the little foxes that ruin your vineyards.”

New Online Feature

In addition to the launch of the new service, a new PayPal donation button is now available on nearly every page of this site. Those of our congregation who might have missed a Sunday but still want to tithe can use this feature to do so. It’s also good for giving just when you feel the need.

Trunk or Treat

Wednesday is Halloween. To help the youngsters in our community celebrate safely, Mt. Wesley Akin Nazarene is sponsoring a “Trunk or Treat” event. Between 6:30 and 8 p.m. Halloween night, trick-or-treaters will be able to fill their pails with all kinds of goodies. The church is located at 2013 New Highway 7, Columbia, TN.

This morning’s service at Mt. Wesley Akin featured a singing by special guests Bob and Jennifer Wilkerson. We also celebrated Sarah William’s 85th birthday and Pastor Appreciation Month with a scrumptious potluck.

The Fall Festival almost always features a weenie roast, a chili contest, and a pie contest. Most of the time, there’s also a hayride, although inclement weather this year forced its cancellation.
